DS-1 – Fuel Microbial Contamination Test Kit

DS-1 uses a two-sided slide to check one diesel sample for bacteria and mold. Its two surfaces examine the same sample; they are not two independent sample tests.

Specifications

• Tests per kit: 1 test of one sample. Single-use slide; do not reuse.
• Result time: bacteria 24–36 hours; mold 36–48 hours.
• Fuel compatibility: diesel fuel only.
• Purpose: investigate suspected microbial contamination in stored diesel.

How to use

1. Do not touch the slide surfaces. Dip into the diesel sample for 30 seconds, preferably using a bottom-of-tank sample when accessible.
2. Shake off excess fuel and return the slide to its tube.
3. Keep in a dark, warm location.
4. Inspect at 24, 36 and 48 hours. The clear side is for bacteria (24–36 hours); the dark side is for mold (36–48 hours).

Interpretation and next steps

Spots, discoloration or growth require investigation. A negative result means no growth was detected under the test conditions at the stated reading intervals; it does not certify the fuel as free of all contamination.

If growth is detected, investigate water first. Assess water removal and fuel polishing before deciding on treatment. Do not treat a positive slide as an instruction to add biocide immediately.

How many tests does one kit provide?

One single-use slide checks one diesel sample for bacteria and mold. Use a new slide for each sample location or retest.

Limits and handling

DS-1 does not detect water, DEF or gasoline contamination. Use other appropriate methods for those questions. Follow the official manufacturer’s handling and disposal instructions and applicable site procedures.
