DS-1 – Fuel Microbial Contamination Test Kit
Diesel Fuel Algae / Bacteria Test
Quickly determine if bacteria or mold are growing in your diesel fuel tank. Results within 48 hours.
How It Works
The slide contains two testing surfaces:
- White side — Detects bacteria. Read at 24–36 hours.
- Off-white side — Detects mold. Read at 36–48 hours.
No spots = fuel is clean. Visible spots = contamination present, immediate action required.
Instructions
- Remove the slide from the tube. Do not touch the surface — bacteria on fingers can affect results.
- Dip the slide into the fuel for 30 seconds.
- Remove excess fuel and place the slide back into the tube.
- Store the tube in a dark location (e.g. a desk drawer) for 24 hours.
- Inspect the slide at each interval: 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours.
If Contamination Is Detected
Important — do not apply biocide immediately. A bio-film may have already formed, which protects bacteria from biocides and reduces their effectiveness.
Correct first step: Remove all water from the fuel tank before applying any treatment. Water is the main cause of microbial contamination. Several products are available for this purpose.
Contamination Levels
Test results may indicate:
- Light contamination
- Moderate contamination
- Heavy contamination
Additional Fuel Testing
Regular fuel inspection is recommended. You can also test for:
- Water contamination
- DEF contamination
- Gasoline contamination
Disposal Instructions
This slide is designed for one test only. To dispose safely:
- Fill the tube with household bleach.
- Reinsert the slide.
- Dispose in household trash.
